Prints with a Purpose: Turning Your Photography Into Relief for LA
The devastation affecting the Los Angeles community right now is heartbreaking for so many. With such significant loss and so many in need, I am resharing the social media fundraising campaign, launched during the hurricanes and fires of 2017, to inspire support for Los Angeles today.
Back then, we introduced the hashtag #GivingPhotography on Instagram as a way for photographers to support relief efforts by offering their prints in exchange for donations to fire-related charities. It also provides an opportunity for those looking to donate to receive a beautiful print as a thank-you for their contribution.
If you like the idea, please do consider offering a print, making a donation or sharing the post.
Here is how the idea works:
-
Choose a print you’d like to donate. It can be any size, photo, or subject. This is entirely self-directed—there’s no need to get your print approved or track donations. Everything happens on social media and managed by you.
-
Post a photo of your chosen print on all your social media accounts. Include any relevant details, such as how many prints are available, especially if you’re donating just one.
-
Explain that anyone who donates to a fire relief charity of their choice (e.g., The Red Cross) and shares a screenshot of their donation with you will receive the print. You can decide whether to set a specific donation amount or leave it open-ended.
-
Use the hashtag #GivingPhotography in your post so people looking to donate in exchange for a print can easily find available options.
