With a Warm Welcome, Origin Productions Joins Our Roster
Over time, it’s become clear that the way projects come together isn’t linear. Jobs don’t come from one place anymore. Instead, they come from many directions; sometimes through agencies, sometimes directly from clients and sometimes through production.
To stay truly useful to the people we work with, we have to be present in all of those channels. And creating more opportunities in the live action space is an extension of that.
Working with Origin Productions allows us to connect clients to a team that can support those projects at every level, and just as importantly, to connect the right collaborators to each other. Because at the end of the day, this business still runs on relationships. Knowing who to bring together, and when, is where the value lives.
Founded by Brandessa Hale, Origin Productions is a full service production company that builds each project from the ground up. The team brings together the right people for the idea and supports the work from concept through final delivery, with a focus on collaboration, clarity, and keeping the process straightforward.
What really stands out when you talk to Brandessa and her team is how she approaches the work. She keeps things calm. Even when a set is busy or something unexpected happens, she stays steady. It gives people room to think, to trust themselves, and to actually do what they’re good at. That kind of environment doesn’t happen by accident, and you can feel it in the work.
As we welcome Origin Productions, we wanted to spend some time with Brandessa to better understand her approach and process.
You didn’t start in production in the traditional way. How did this all begin?
I was actually an agent and producer first, so I was representing my husband and producing all of his shoots. It was kind of an organic growth from helping him manage his business.
As it grew, I realized how much I loved it. The reason it’s such a good match for me is that I really love holding space for people to do their best work. No matter how chaotic it gets or how many changes there are, how stressful it can be, I try to be that calm and stable, positive force that encourages the best work out of everybody.
You’re known for being a calm, grounding presence on set. How do you think that affects the work?
I think it comes down to motivation versus inspiration.
It’s tempting in leadership positions to try to get the best work out of people by raising the stakes and constantly reminding them how high the stakes are and how terrible it would be if everything fell apart.
That kind of motivation can get the job done, but it doesn’t feel good and it doesn’t bring the best out of people.
When you’re grounded in confidence in what you do, what they do, what the agency does, what the client wants, it inspires people. It gives them the freedom to do what they do well instead of second guessing every little thing.
It’s a different path to the same end, but it leads to better results and better relationships.
You mentioned your creativity is more in problem solving. What does that look like for you?
I’ve never really had aspirations to be a photographer or director. I really love what other people do.
I have a deep respect for what they create, and my creativity is really more in problem solving. I’m a very out of the box thinker, but my focus is on keeping all of the parts clearly organized and connected so they can do what they do best.
When everything is clear, people do their best work. And I love seeing that, seeing everyone bring it.
Production always comes with curveballs. How do you keep perspective when things go wrong?
There’s always something.
I just did a shoot where we had a mini pony, and the day before the shoot the pony got sick. It was a big part of the project. So when they called me to let me know, your first reaction is kind of like, oh no.
Wait, I’m sorry - I would have never even thought about a pony getting sick. (laughs)
Right? And if I had been so stressed out, I wouldn’t have been able to calmly think, okay, where else can I get a mini pony in the next two hours? Who did I call before?
You just go on and find the solution. And when you bring it to the client, you bring the problem with the solution.
When you stay grounded, you can see solutions everywhere. They just kind of pop up.
How do you unwind after a long or stressful shoot?
I am a walker. I walk in nature every day. I do it in the morning and usually again in the evening. That’s really my mode. I do a walking meditation every day.
I keep things really simple. I don’t have a television. I read a lot.
And then time with my kids. That’s my happy place.
What kind of work are you most excited about or drawn to?
Definitely something meaningful, where the director is really connected to the idea and we all feel like we’re creating something bigger than ourselves.
What do you love most about being a producer?
It’s the people. I love the people.
What they can do, how well they can do it, how much they care. We work with amazing people. Seeing everyone come together and bring their best, that’s always the most rewarding part.
We’re incredibly excited to be representing Origin Productions and looking forward to what’s ahead. After the interview, inspired by Brandessa’s calm and confidence, I too took a walk in nature.
